A University of Illinois worker went to the hospital last week after a chemical spill in the laboratory, the Daily Illini reported.

A cleaning service worker came into contact with a white powder believed to be aluminum chloride. She fell ill and went to the hospital, university spokesman Robin Kaler told the Daily. The woman was released within a few days.

The chemical reacted with contents in a biohazard bag releasing a gas-like substance. Another worker drove the service worker to the hospital.

When the fire department arrived, they sealed the chemical and placed it in a ventilated laboratory. "It was a small container that was moderately toxic," Urbana Fire Department Division Chief Jeff McDuffy told the Daily.
