Hospital staff at Pyrenees Hospital Centre in Pau, France, discovered the bodies of two nurses last week, The Guardian reported.

The double murder in the psychiatric wing of the hospital has left other staff members frightened about returning to work. A nurse's decapitated head was left on top of a television in the patients' day room, The Guardian reported. Another body had been stabbed and slashed several times left in a corridor.

On Monday, French police arrested a former patient for allegedly committing the murders.

There was no regular security patrol at the facility during the murders. Health union delegates were critical of the lack of proper security arrangements at the hospital, which they said was due to funding cuts. Since the murders, the hospital has beefed up security.
