SARS vaccine ready to be tested

Emergency Management Alert, December 20, 2004

The first US vaccine against SARS is ready to be put to the test, Reuters reported this week

Government researchers will test the vaccine on 10 volunteers. The vaccine appears to be safe for people, Sinovac Biotech Ltd said.

SARS emerged in China in November 2002 and spread as far as Canada by the following April. Before it was brought under control, the previously unknown virus killed 774 people and made about 8,000 sick, Reuters reported.
