Read the CDC suspicious letters and packages response guide

Emergency Management Alert, November 30, 2004

Due to a large number of suspicious letters and packages being reported to federal, state, and local agencies, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released last week the "Guidance on Initial Responses to a Suspicious Letter / Container With a Potential Biological Threat".

The document includes proper response to suspicious letters and packages. While guidelines are generally focused on the initial response to potential biological threats, personnel responding to incidents must know about exposure to hazardous chemicals, and radiological and biological hazards. Responders must also be aware of secondary releases or devices.
