NJ hospitals standardize emergency codes

The New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA) revealed last week 10 common emergency codes for hospitals and other healthcare providers in the state, the AHA News reported.
The volunteer common code system allows
"With a uniform emergency code system all hospitals and others can now respond consistently to emergencies," Valerie Sellers, NJHA senior vice president of planning and research, told AHA. "Ultimately this is all about increasing safety for patients, staff and visitors."
Under the 10 common codes, Code Red will always indicate a fire, while Code Blue signifies an adult medical emergency.
Since other healthcare facilities share physicians, nurses, and other staff, a common code system may ease confusion during emergencies.
