Army grade chemical treatment available for first responders

Emergency Management Alert, October 15, 2004

A chemical attack antidote previously only used by the U.S. military will now be available to state and local emergency responders, the Associated Press reported.

Reactive Skin Decontamination Lotion is a lotion-soaked sponge that can be wiped on skin after a chemical attack. The national distribution of this product gives first responders treatment beyond just soap and water.

Two companies lobbied Congress to permit the sales of the lotion. However, the army previously declined distribution, requiring more testing. There are still no immediate plans to sell the lotion to the public.
