Emergency health professional volunteer guide in the works
Emergency Management Alert, October 15, 2004
A $2.4 million contract approved by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) last week will allow a leading technology provider to develop a volunteer health professional registry, Business Wire Inc. reported.
ManTech International Corporation received the contract and will work through 2006 to produce a state-based volunteer health professional guide for emergencies. ManTech will develop technical and policy guidelines, standards, and definitions for the emergency system for advance registration of volunteer health professionals. ManTech will also provide technical assistance to states, who participate in the program. All states participating in the National Bioterrorism Hospital Preparedness Program are expected to comply with the guidelines.
"HHS is a new customer for ManTech," said George J. Pedersen, ManTech CEO. "While the majority of our work involves providing advanced technology solutions to the intelligence community and the Department of Defense, this contract will help us to broaden our involvement supporting the U.S. government in the war against terrorism."
