A trio of Massachusetts healthcare organizations will have three years and $1.4 million from the National Institute of Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to try and develop technology that offers patients better, safer care in ambulatory settings.
According to a report on the business Web site http://www.businesswire.com, Fallon Clinic, Fallon Community Health Plan, and UMass Memorial Health Care will work together on SAFE Health Info, a system that allows different healthcare institutions and physicians to access fully up-to-date patient records quickly when they are admitted to an emergency or ambulatory care facility.
"Today's health care system is highly fragmented," Mark Fisher, chief operating officer of Fallon Community Health Plan, told http://www.businesswire.com. "By securely sharing health information among hospitals, physicians, and health insurers, SAFE Health Info will reduce medical errors, improve quality of care, and cut healthcare costs."
A prototype of The SAFE system, supported by Hewlett-Packard and other corporate and technological partners, is expected to be completed by this December.
