Hurricane Ivan woes continue throughout the east
Emergency Management Alert, September 20, 2004
Flooding from Hurricane Ivan forced evacuations of thousands of residents in Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Maryland over the weekend, ABC News reported.
In less than 24 hours, five to eight inches of rain fell in northeastern Pennsylvania and northwestern New Jersey. The Delaware River flooded parts of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania, forcing thousands to flee, and the Ohio River soaked parts of towns in West Virginia and Ohio. The Susquehanna River flooded east-central Pennsylvania and a portion of Maryland. The National Weather Service reported the Susquehanna flooding among the five worst since the beginning of the 19th century.
While conditions were expected to improve this week, extensive damage was reported across all five flooded states.
