After the University of North Carolina Hospital began looking for a missing two-year-old girl, officials discovered the girl's father removed her from the hospital, NBC 17 reports.
Madison Douglas, 2, of Greensboro, spent 22 days in the hospital for burn wounds to both legs. During a routine check on the night of September 8, a staff member reported Madison missing. The girl was last seen with her father, Robin Douglas.
Hospital officials called a "code pink," the infant abduction code, and alerted local law enforcement.
The hospital cancelled the alert when Douglas contacted the hospital to say he took his daughter home. "There is no court order stating I cannot have my daughter," Douglas told NBC 17. I have the right to take my daughter whenever I want to, especially since the hospital said she was ready to go home 10 days ago."
Hospital officials planned to discuss the girl's discharge the following day with Douglas and the Department of Social Services, which want to place Madison into foster care.
