Florida hospitals prepare for third hurricane
Emergency Management Alert, September 13, 2004
Florida hospitals prepared this week for another hurricane, the AHA news reported.
Hurricane Ivan threatened to hit Florida late on Monday, September 13. Florida hospitals and emergency planning officials took familiar steps to prepare a response. Ivan could be the third hurricane to hit the state within a month.
Evacuations to inland hospitals began near the Keys, according to Florida Hospital Association (FHA) spokesperson Rich Rasmussen. Further phased-evacuations were expected as the hurricane nears.
The state's hurricane season tested hospital disaster preparedness plans, and "so far, they've proven effective," Rasmussen said.
