For patients, visiting an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) isn't exactly their idea of a party. But, ASCs across the country will be looking to put their best, most festive foot forward next month, when they participate in National Ambulatory Surgery Center Open House Day on October 20.
The special day - sponsored by the Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association (FASA) in conjunction with a national "Here When You Need Us" campaign - is intended as a way for ASCs to offer greater awareness of their existence and the services they provide to the community-at-large. According to information posed at FASA's website (http://www.fasa.org), ASCs around the country will offer facility tours, lectures on health topics, and a variety of free screenings throughout the day.
This will be the second year that ASCs have participated in the open house program. FASA executive vice president Kathy Bryant told the medical business Web site http://www.modernphysician.com that about 200 member ASCs participated the first year, and that this year, informational kits about the program have been mailed out to 2,000 member and non-member ASCs.
