Two decades of academic certification through the American Dental Association prepared the University Dental Associates (UDA) in Winston-Salem, NC, for its first AAAHC accreditation survey three years ago.

UDA's survey went well since staff had already gone through a similar process and didn't have to "reinvent the wheel," says Bruce Rogers, DDS, vice president of quality improvement and a practicing dentist at UDA.

Rogers suggests organizations revise their policies and procedures whenever standards change. Also stay on top of ongoing process like the AAAHC's quality improvement studies, regardless of when you are up for survey.

Additionally, the center's hygienist keeps current with existing policies and procedures, paying special attention to changes seen in standards that cover governance/credentialing and anesthesia, which the AAAHC has revised over the past few years.
