Online course available on smallpox vaccine handling

Emergency Management Alert, September 3, 2004

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced last week that it will offer a free online course on smallpox vaccine storage and handling for hospitals.

The course includes information on ordering the vaccine, monitoring its temperature, using proper equipment, and developing a vaccine disaster recovery plan. The goal of the course is for hospital staff to properly store, handle, and ship smallpox vaccine.

The course length varies depending on the person. The CDC estimates it takes about two-and-a-half hours to complete the course.
