Hospitals watch for terrorist ploys

Emergency Management Alert, August 24, 2004

With the Republican National Convention nearing, many New Jersey and New York hospitals have increased security, the Courier Times reported.

A recent warning that hospitals could be locations of secondary attacks prompted increased security as well. Last week, the state office of counterterrorism also warned emergency medical service (EMS) companies to look for suspicious behavior. Two EMS companies and a hospital emergency room recently received inquiries about necessary credentials to operate an emergency vehicle.

Hospital are increasing security patrols to watch for suspicious behavior and using more cameras.
