Collapsed deck sends 70 to the hospital
Emergency Management Alert, August 6, 2004
More than 70 people received injuries last week when a wooden deck collapsed at a Montana bar, the Missoulian reported.
Just after midnight, the Diamond Horseshoe bar and casino deck in Polson gave way, dropping 14 ft onto a hill.
Four people received life-threatening injuries and were airlifted to local hospitals. Dozens of injured victims arrived at nearby hospitals.
The deck collapse tested the region's emergency response.
"It was actually an amazing response by all the little towns surrounding us," said Karen Sargeant, a public information officer and volunteer firefighter for the Polson Fire Department.
