Bush signs Project Bioshield legislation

Emergency Management Alert, July 28, 2004

President George Bush signed the BioShield legislation last week, marking a step toward improving the country's bioterrorism preparedness.

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said hospitals will now be able to quickly purchase important medicines during a threat to the country.

The $6 billion investment will allow the U.S. to develop and provide modern, effective drugs and vaccines to protect against a biological, chemical, nuclear, and radiological attack.
