CDC plans for massive flu outbreak
Emergency Management Alert, July 28, 2004
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to stockpile 4 million flu vaccines for children, the San Jose Mercury reports.
Two vaccine makers plan to prepare 100 million doses of the vaccine-almost 17 million more than last year.
Chiron, a vaccine manufacturer, said it shipped 1 million doses to wholesalers as part of a production run that will ultimately yield 52 million shots this year, the most the company has ever produced in a single year. Last year, the company only made 38 million shots, which were exhausted by early October, the beginning of the flu season.
