Florida ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) must now provide pricing and outcomes data to the state under a new law aimed at improving patient safety and reducing healthcare costs.

Florida hospitals and ASCs must make public information about pricing and quality under the law Gov. Jeb Bush signed in June. The information will be in an easy-to-understand format so patients will be able to review it.

Making the information public and putting it in a user-friendly format may help reduce healthcare costs, said Karen Ignagni, president and chief executive officer of America's Health Insurance Plans.

"When [information is] out in the public, the prices move," Ignagni said.
