A bullet went through a window and lodged in the wall of Doylestown (PA) Hospital on July 6, according to the Buck County Courier Times.
Police are investigating the incident. While no one was hurt, the handgun was likely shot between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., police say.
Three hours later, a hospital worker noticed the bullet hole and reported the finding to police. Some hospital staff reported hearing bangs around that time in the morning, the Courier reports.
Township Police Chief Stephen White said fortunately no one got hurt.
"It could have hit someone in the head getting off the elevator," he said.
"I don't believe someone was [deliberately] firing at the hospital," a hospital spokesperson said. "The fact they were firing in a populated area is not good."
Hospital security employees are trained to be alert to suspicious noises, but no one knew a bullet had hit the building until 6 a.m.
