NH hospitals receive personal protective equipment
Emergency Management Alert, May 24, 2004
New Hampshire hospitals will soon receive nearly $700,000 in personal protective equipment for healthcare workers under a federal grant coordinated by the New Hampshire Hospital Association (NHHA).
The equipment is designed to protect healthcare workers from exposure to hazardous contaminants in an emergency. It includes decontamination kits, powered air-purifying respirators, clothing to protect healthcare workers from biological contamination when caring for isolated patients, and pre-and post-decontamination clothing for patients.
"This equipment will go a long way in making sure each hospital in the state has the proper tools to deal with disasters involving hazardous contamination," said Kathy Bizarro, NHHA executive vice president.
Since January 2003, New Hampshire hospitals have received more than $2 million in preparedness funding and equipment, including portable isolation units, under a $5 million, three-year grant from the Department of Health and Human Service's Health Resources and Services Administration.
