Hazmat crews responded May 11 to Lakeland Hospital in Niles, MI, to help contain a chemical spill, WNDU-TV reports.

Chemicals used to sterilize operating rooms leaked inside the building. The spill occurred in a room equipped with monitors, which set off an alarm after a small hose ruptured and released the chemicals, said Niles Fire Chief Larry Lamb.

Patients were not in danger and did not have to be evacuated. Two hospital staff members were treated for exposure to the chemicals and released. Fire officials do not know what caused the hose to rupture and release the chemicals.
