St. Vincent's Catholic Medical Centers will close two New York City hospitals as part of a plan to improve the system's financial health.

St. Joseph's Hospital in Flushing, Queens, and Bayley Seton Hospital in Staten Island will close within the next year, according to The New York Times. St. Joseph's-which usually has fewer than 100 patients at a time-could be converted to an ambulatory center, and Bayley Seton Hospital's HIV clinic will move to St. Vincent's Hospital Staten Island.

St. Vincent's is projected to lose $74 million this year, after losing $68 million last year. St. Joseph's would require $40 million in upgrades to bring it up to date, St. Vincent's Chief Executive Officer David Speltz told the Times.
