University of Iowa Hospitals' new $18.8 million maternity center and neonatal intensive care unit will have numerous security devices to prevent infant abductions, the Iowa City Press-Citizen reports.

Scheduled to open April 13, the 88,000-square-foot, three-floor unit will feature a secure elevator, exits with alarms, closed circuit television cameras, and panic buttons in patient rooms. Treatment for babies will occur behind locked doors, which only open with security cards. Hospital officials even refused to allow media to publish the floor plan.

The hospital plans to move patients gradually to the center during the next several months.
