The New Jersey Senate on Monday unanimously approved a bill requiring physicians and other healthcare providers to report medical errors involving patients.

The law would require hospitals to report all adverse events to an internal review board and to state regulators. The data collected by internal review boards would be protected from legal discovery.

The bill moves to the Assembly and could make its way to the governor's desk by March, according to The Associated Press.
