FEMA plans national incident management system
Emergency Management Alert, February 17, 2004
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) this year plans to establish a national incident management system (NIMS) to better coordinate emergency response at all levels, FEMA Secretary Michael Brown said February 11 at a National Emergency Management Association conference.
The proposed Bush administration budget released in early February includes $7 million for development and implementation of the system, which will deal with emergencies, disasters, and other incidents with a common methodology and organizational process, Brown said.
FEMA also plans to publish mutual aid system development, credentialing, and equipment operations standards to help develop a national mutual aid and resource management system.
