A Des Moines, IA, nursing home administrator surrendered her license recently to settle allegations of unethical and deceptive practice, the Des Moines Register reports.
Christine Bedford, currently the administrator at City View Residential Facility in Des Moines, had served as administrator at Easton Health Care Center until the facility closed in 2001.
The Iowa Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators alleged that Bedford knowingly made false statements and engaged in unethical conduct when state officials began investigating Easton in 2001. Bedford also allowed an unlicensed person to function as a nursing home administrator, the board charged.
State records indicate that in 2001, just before the state closed the facility for health and safety violations, Bedford instructed workers not to tell state officials about a resident's recent departure from the home.
After Easton closed, Bedford continued to work as administrator of City View, which is owned by the same firm that operated Easton, Clayton Care Corp. A hearing on the allegations against Bedford was scheduled, but she settled the case with no admission of wrongdoing.
