A Hong Kong mental hospital said September 17 that seven inmates who were tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) have the flu and not the deadly flu-like virus, Reuters reports.
The SARS scare was the second in three days in Hong Kong, after a 34-year-old woman who also had fever and breathing problems tested negative for SARS.
Hong Kong's Hospital Authority said that chest X-rays of the seven mental patients, who were isolated after suffering fever and breathing problems on September 16, showed clear lungs. The condition of the men was stable.
Health experts have warned about a possible resurgence of the SARS virus during the coming cold and flu season. The virus killed more than 800 people worldwide.
