A Hong Kong hospital quarantined 24 patients after seven of its health workers developed flu-like symptoms, although none tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), the Associated Press reports.
Five nurses and two health care assistants working in a ward at the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital in Tai Po developed coughs, sore throats, and fevers on August 22. Five of the workers have returned to work, while two are on sick leave. None required hospital treatment.
On August 25, the hospital barred the 24 patients from leaving and monitored them for SARS symptoms after some developed mild fevers and coughs. A hospital spokeswoman said preliminary evidence showed the cases were not SARS-related.
