South Dakota conducts its own emergency training

Emergency Management Alert, September 3, 2003

South Dakota officials are taking emergency training into their own hands by conducting response training for such situations as burning buildings, car accidents, and ice emergencies, the Argus Leader of Sioux Falls, SD reports.

Officials expect about 200 firefighters, EMTs, and other first responders to attend. The goal is to have at least a few participants from every city in the state, the newspaper says. The weekend training classes are part of a series held at different locations throughout the state. Emergency preparedness grant funds pay for the instruction.
