Police asked employees of the Dallas County Nursing Home in Fordyce, AR, to take polygraph tests August 6 as part of the investigation into the assault of an 81-year-old resident, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports.
The female resident remained hospitalized in critical condition last week at Jefferson Regional Medical Center at Pine Bluff. The woman had been unconscious since the attack and unable to help investigators.
An employee discovered the woman's injuries at about 2:30 a.m. on July 31 during a routine check of her room. The woman was last checked two hours earlier. The nursing home contacted police and took the woman to an emergency room physician, who determined she had been beaten; an investigator also told the Associated Press the woman may have been raped.
Police said the attacker may not have worked at the facility, since a back door was found unlocked. Another resident may have also injured her. Seven employees were on duty at the time.
