A Colorado woman who died on August 1 is the fourth person in the United States to succumb this year to a West Nile virus infection, the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle reports.

The victim, an unidentified 77-year-old Greeley, CO, resident, was admitted to North Colorado Medical Center with other chronic medical conditions. In addition to her, two people died in Texas and one in Alabama.

As of August 4, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had confirmed 103 cases in 15 states, up from 26 cases in nine states a week earlier. Colorado had the most cases with 36, followed by Texas with 19, and Louisiana with 10.

The virus is spread by mosquitoes that have fed on infected animals. Symptoms include headaches, swollen glands, muscle aches, and a rash. Last year, the virus killed 284 people and afflicted 4,150 in the U.S.
