Q&A: Earthquake guidance from an OSHA expert

Q: What are the OSHA expectations for earthquake safety and preparedness for healthcare facilities (if any)?  

McFarlane: OSHA, The Joint Commission, DNV, HFAP, and CMS expect that each healthcare facility have a current Hazardous Vulnerability Assessment (HVA), which addresses emergencies/disasters specific for the geographical location. These include natural disasters like:
