NYC tests bioterror response
Emergency Management Alert, May 28, 2003
State and federal emergency responders in New York City held their own emergency drill last month, the Associated Press reports.
Operation Winter Sun tested new counter terrorism equipment and looked at how emergency teams assessed patients and victims of chemical, biological, or radiological attacks. The drill took place on a Brooklyn pier.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the drill shows "how responders, including local hospitals, deal with a terrorist threat while minimizing risks to themselves and others," the report said. Officials will use lessons learned from the drill to train other cities in emergency response.
