After much anticipation, CMS approved last year its own emergency preparedness rules separate from The Joint Commission and other accreditation agencies. Among other things, the update requires hospitals, nursing facilities, and group homes to have plans to maintain emergency lighting, fire safety systems, and sewage and waste disposal during power losses.

CMS required the changes to be in place by November 15, 2017 to maintain compliance. Understanding the key requirements of the new CMS emergency management regulations will be paramount to your agency’s continued compliance.

During this on-demand webinar from HCPro, expert speakers Marge McFarlane, PhD, MT(ASCP), CHSP, CHFM, CJCP, HEM, MEP, CHEP, and Thomas Huser, MS, CHSP, CHEP guide you through the changes and help you identify resources for implementation, provide helpful tips, outline the special focus on fire drills for critical access hospitals, and list the optional and required CMS emergency management standard categories.

At the conclusion of this on-demand webinar, participants will be able to:

  • List the required and optional categories of the CMS emergency management regulations
  • Discuss tips for implementation
  • Identify potential challenges to implementation
  • Outline the special focus on fire drills for critical access hospitals
