CMS interpretation finds that EDs are healthcare occupancies

In a rather surprising interpretation by CMS, all hospital emergency departments (ED) are now required to be classified as healthcare occupancies only. For many hospitals this may not be a problem, but for those hospitals that have already classified their EDs as an ambulatory healthcare occupancy, they will have to make a change back to a healthcare occupancy designation.
