Three-hundred physicians in Chester County, PA, marched on the county courthouse on April 30 while others across the state closed their offices in protest of skyrocketing malpractice premiums in the state, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Some hospitals in the state responded to increased numbers of emergency room patients, but most reported normal patient volumes.
Pennsylvania physicians are angered by the state's high malpractice premiums, which drive physicians out of the state, and discourage new physicians from practicing there, according to the Inquirer. The malpractice insurers of two physician groups in the state—a pulmonary critical care group, and an infectious disease group—recently notified the groups that their policies will not be renewed as of July 1.
