This week, the Leapfrog Group, a non-profit group that collects and reports data on hospital safety, released its Fall 2016 hospital safety grades. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses safety experts to assign letter grades (A, B, C, D, or F) to more than 2600 U.S. hospitals twice each year.
The report shows that hospitals overall are improving, with the number of A and B ratings up by 6% and 3% respectively. Several states in particular showed significant improvements over the past few years; North Carolina, Utah, Idaho Vermont, and Hawaii have all climbed ranks since 2013, and Hawaii took the top ranking for the first time with two thirds of their hospitals receiving an A rating. Filling out the bottom of the list are Alaska, Delaware, North Dakota, and Washington, D.C., none of which have an A-rated hospital.
