Briefing on Hospital Safety: Use an emergency messaging system to help your facility survive a disaster

Hurricanes, earthquakes, fires, and more recently, active shooters and bomb threats: These are all examples of events that can subject staff and patients to danger, fear, and confusion. This sense of chaos can wreak havoc on a facility and its ability to respond to emergency situations while simultaneously caring for its patients and protecting its staff.

During these kinds of stressful events, communication is critical. Enabling personnel to respond in the urgent and comprehensive manner necessary to ensure public safety requires a clear and consistent message. It also requires a method of communicating this message as widely as possible, in the shortest amount of time possible.

Typically, a facility's risk management group will be tasked with the development, implementation, and maintenance of an emergency management or disaster preparedness plan via their hazardous vulnerability analysis. Increasingly, an important element of this plan is the standardization and coordination of a facility-wide digital emergency messaging system.
