Fire crews in Knoxville, Tenn., rescued a patient from his hospital bed after a fire broke out in his room, according to a report from WATE-TV.

According to the report, the fire broke out on the second floor of Physicians Regional Medical Center (formerly St. Mary's) on the evening of May 10. When firefighters reached the floor, they were met with a heavy thick smoke and nurses with wet rags over their mouths and noses. They quickly evacuated patients for safety.

Fire crews made their way back to the room where the fire originated and found a patient and the bed where he was still lying on fire, even though the sprinkler had activated, the report said.

Also according to WATE, firefighters assisted moving the patient to the ER of the hospital. No information was available on the patient's condition. All patients on the floor where the fire started were evacuated along with patients on the floor below due to water runoff.
