A prominent Boston cardiologist and a hospital aide were killed on April 8 in a shooting at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to the Associated Press. While Boston police are not labeling the incident a "murder-suicide," they said they are not looking for a suspect.
The aide, Colleen Mitchell, allegedly shot physician Brian McGovern after he arrived at his office, then killed herself, according to local news reports.
The shooting took place in the hospital's Cardiac Arrhythmia Center and Electrophysiology Labs, where outpatient appointments were cancelled on Tuesday. Both victims were transported to the hospital's emergency department for treatment, but neither survived.
The hospital says it has the country's largest integrated security system, one that includes 770 card readers, 510 panic buttons, and 85 closed-circuit television cameras.
