Patient stabs security guard in neck, abdomen at Ohio hospital

A security guard at an Akron, Ohio hospital was critically injured February 16 when a behavioral health patient attacked him with knives, according to a report in the Columbus Dispatch.

Police sources in the report said the 54-year-old guard underwent surgery. His condition wasn't unavailable, but his injuries were considered life-threatening.

According to the report, the attack happened around 7 p.m. at Summa St. Thomas Hospital in Akron. The guard was stabbed in the neck and abdomen as the 33-year-old suspect was being taken into the hospital. Other hospital employees restrained the suspect, who has been taken into custody. No one else was hurt, according to the paper.
