Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, Virginia held a full-scale emergency preparedness drill July 19, which featured volunteer “victims” and a realistic response from first responders, according to a report from WRIC-TV.
According to the report, the drill started at around 9 a.m. and featured hospital staff as well as volunteers from the Richmond Fire Department, Richmond and Henrico Police Bomb Squads, Richmond Ambulance Authority, and several other agencies. Some of the victims were played by local Boy Scouts.
The hospital’s drill simulated a mass-casualty scenario to gauge the effectiveness of the hospital and first responders. The drill focused on critical transportation, situational assessment, communications, public health and medical service, and on-scene security and protection.
