Officials are continuing to investigate an apparent murder-suicide that took place at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire on December 30, according to an article in the Boston Globe.

According to the article, Mark Lavoie, 50, allegedly shot dead his wife who was a patient in the critical care unit at about 6 a.m. He then apparently took his own life.

Several of Lavoie’s friends noticed he had posted several messages on Facebook saying that he was about to kill his wife. Despite their pleas online for him not to follow through, his posts said he wanted to help his wife “escape the bipolar demons that have been swirling around in her brain since childhood.”

According to the article, the hospital was never on lockdown because the incident was contained to one room.
