A fast-moving wildfire forced the evacuation of at least 40 patients from a long-term care hospital in Burney, California, according to a report in the Redding (California) Record Searchlight.
The so-called Eiler Fire in the Intermountain Area came within five miles of the hospital, the paper reported, and ash from the blaze began raining down on the area, prompting the evacuation.
The patients were being transferred from the Mayers Memorial Hospital Burney Annex to Mercy Medical Center in Redding, about 65 miles away. From there, the patients will be placed in nearby healthcare facilities until the danger recedes, the paper reported.
