The battle for hospital worker safety

When we think of the role that hospitals play, the first thing we think about is the patient, and the responsibility to help the patient get better becomes paramount.

But what about the safety of staff members who greet the patients on a daily basis?

Many hospitals across the nation are taking a closer look at the security of their frontline staff and making moves to tighten up the tactics and protocols they use to protect the nurses and administrative staff who are usually the first people a patient encounters when they walk in the door.

The California Nurses Association (CNA) took the issue of preventing workplace violence to the state legislature in April after two nurses were injured in two separate incidents on April 20 in Los Angeles-area hospitals.
