Three police officers – one of whom was in training – shot and killed a woman on July 8 after she refused to drop a knife she was holding outside a hospital emergency room in Sandpoint, Idaho, according to a report in the Spokesman-Review.
The report said Officers Skylar Ziegler, Mike Valenzuela and Garrett Johnson – all on the the Sandpoint Police Department for five years or less – were responding to a report of a “weapons offense” outside the ER entrance of Bonner General Hospital when 35-year-old Jeanette Riley reportedly exited a white van armed with a knife.
Johnson was in field training at the time of the shooting, according to the report. The shooting is still under investigation, the paper reported.
