An Amber Alert and vigilant social media users who responded to a post on Facebook are being credited with the safe return of a newborn baby that was stolen from a Canadian hospital, reports CNN.
The 16-hour-old baby girl, named Victoria, was abducted from the maternity ward of a hospital in Trois-Rivières, Quebec on May 26 by a 21-year-old female, the report said. Staff members said the woman wore a nurse’s uniform when she entered the hospital, and drove away in a Toyota with a sign on it that said “Baby on Board.”
Also according to CNN, the baby's uncle told said he spoke with the woman in the nurse's uniform as she walked down the hospital hallway with the newborn in her arms. She told him she was taking the baby for routine tests. Hospital staff realized the baby had been taken, they alerted security guards who tracked down a photo of the woman with help from police and sent out the Amber Alert.
According to the report, the mother posted the Amber Alert and a description of the woman’s car on Facebook, and four concerned friends responded. One of them recognized the woman as a former neighbor and drove to the apartment where they found the suspect’s vehicle outside and called police. Police responded within minutes and were able to recover the baby and arrested the suspected abductor.
