A patient is being blamed for a Christmas Day fire at Kaweah Delta Medical Center that prompted a temporary evacuation of patients, officials at the Visalia Fire Department said. Crews were called just after 2 p.m. to the hospital by following reports of a fire on the third floor in the north wing area. The patient, a man in his mid 20s, lit bedding material with a lighter, but the blaze was quickly extinguished by hospital staff, fire officials said.
