Hospitals in New York City and New Jersey were hit particularly hard as some had to evacuate due to flooding and failing generators

It was labeled the "storm of the century," and for the most part Superstorm Sandy lived up to the hype, knocking out power from Virginia to New England and decimating a number of towns along the New York and New Jersey shoreline.
